I was out there before the event started and I shot a live video.  I remember saying during the live shot, how loud the music was during the sound check.  Then I pointed the camera up and I opined, boy I wonder how the people living in these condo’s will appreciate the loud noise until midnight.

5 Points is such a tight area and I can only imagine how aggravated some of the home/condo owners may have been with the music and crowds until midnight.

I live at PLAZA @FIVE POINTS which overlooks Five Points Park. I understand and accept  the desire by downtown merchants to hold events in the park that will bring more customers downtown. However, I don’t understand how this event helped meet that goal. In particular, I don’t understand WHY the city gave this organization a permit to hold a LIVE CONCERT with amplified music until MIDNIGHT. There are many condos overlooking this park. The retail/commercial stores around the park are closed on weekends or for the season, so the only affected parties are the residential condos with full time residents. I would have  had no problem if the activities ended at 6:00pm. However , the amplified music was so loud that I couldn’t listen to TV or hold a quiet conversation in my unit . The music stopped at around 12 am and then the organizers gave some speeches on how great the event was until about 12:10 am.

I know that the City Commission is talking about the Street Closure PROCESS but a LIVE CONCERT shouldn’t be PERMITTED until MIDNIGHT  by the city in such a venue with residential units overlooking it. Though I don’t have a noise meter , I’m almost certain that the loudness would have violated the city’s noise ordnance.

I’m sending this to you as CITY MANAGER since you control the organization that permits these types of events. I know that there were many others in the building who share my concern. I would be glad to  personally discuss this matter with you ,if you wish. I can be reached on xxxxx
