A River Road ownership swap with the state may bring much needed repairs until sometime in 2025

The City of North Port and Sarasota County Commission discussed River Road during their joint meeting today.

Last month the county reached a tentative deal with the DOT, to swap River Rd for State Rd 758 on Siesta Key.  Changing the ownership over to the state will open up the availability of funds to repair and widen River Rd.  A forty million-dollar project that Sarasota County and the surrounding cities just cannot afford.

Sarasota County plans on discussing the road ownership swap at their meeting next week on 5.22.

This is not all that rosey though folks, since the state will not have the money available until 2024, with the work beginning in 2025.  That is five years after the scheduled opening of the Braves complex and the build out of a few hundred homes in the West Villages.

I put this article together via listening to their joint meeting, but the Herald has put out a detailed article with all the specifics.  You can find that article at: http://www.heraldtribune.com/news/20180514/river-road-progress-discussed-at-joint-meeting
