Additional crew added to Downtown Beautification Project – 200 block of WB W. Venice Ave. to close 11/8

 

In an ongoing effort to accelerate the Downtown Beautification Project, the contractor has secured an additional crew and is scheduled to begin work on the 200 block of westbound W. Venice Avenue tomorrow. Beginning tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 8, 2018, motorists should expect westbound W. Venice Avenue to be closed from just west of Nokomis Avenue to Nassau Street. Access to the Centennial Park parking lot from W. Venice Avenue will remain open at this time. Motorists will be able to use Nokomis Avenue to Tampa Avenue as a detour during this closure.

 

Due to the rains last week, the paving has shifted to begin on Tuesday, Nov. 13. Crews continue preparation work this paving work on eastbound W. Venice Avenue, Nassau Avenue and the 300 block of W. Miami Avenue. Curb removal and tree cell installation is underway on the 200 block of W. Miami. Access to the public parking area is available through the alley from Nokomis Avenue.

 

This week crews are also removing and replacing sidewalk on the 100 block and the 300 block on the north side of W. Venice Avenue and continuing work on the brick pavers on the crosswalks.

 

A Downtown Venice Beautification Project Update Meeting will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14 in Council Chambers at City Hall, 401 W. Venice Ave.

 

There will be an informational open house from 2-2:30 p.m., followed by a presentation from 2:30-3 p.m. by City Engineer Kathleen Weeden and Project Public Information Officer Jennifer Dorning.

 

The public is invited to attend.
