Email To The Scoop News – Has there been any news about bacteria or virus in the water at local Sarasota County beaches?
Has there been any news about bacteria or virus in the water at local Sarasota County beaches? (Manasota Beach?) Very curious to know if this is true or not. A young man was in emergency room yesterday and we overheard something about rash, flesh eating, etc. However, this info was muffled and not confirmed. He was directed to return tomorrow for cleaning the infected area and given antibiotics while there plus an Rx follow up antibiotic.
The young man said he had been going to Manasota Beach several days, fishing and swimming. He had some sort of rash that he thought was from sand mites??? It developed into a larger infected area on his foot. His friend had arrived and they began to talk about what could be wrong, what did the Dr say, etc. That’s when they lowered their voices and we heard them talking about bacteria/virus in the water at the beach and something about it being aggressive, flesh eating.
Just concerned… My adult son likes to fish that area and also skim or swim. I’ve tried to search around online but didn’t find any recent incident or notice from the county. Although I did find a recent no swim notice for another local beach North of Venice.
