Florida Red Tide and other Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) report of respiratory irritation (RI) and dead fish (DF) were made today

The Beach Conditions Reporting System, or BCRS (www.visitbeaches.org) is a website and smartphone app which allows trained beach sentinels to report beach conditions, including the effects resulting from blooms of the harmful algal species, Karenia brevis.

The following reports of respiratory irritation (RI) and dead fish (DF) were made today:

Venice North Jetty: Moderate RI, Some DF
Venice Beach- Slight RI, Some DF
Nokomis: Moderate RI, Some DF
Manasota Beach: Slight RI, no DF
Nokomis: Moderate RI, Many DF
Captiva- Moderate RI, no DF
Gasparilla Island Range Light (Boca Grande): Moderate RI, Some DF
Gasparilla Island State Park (Boca Grande): Moderate RI, Some DF
South Marco Beach: No RI, Some DF

Please visit the BCRS (free smartphone app available through iTunes and Google Play) to make healthy decisions when visiting a Gulf Coast beach.

Red tide blooms are patchy and we only have one reporter at each reporting beach. So, if you are experiencing effects of red tide, including respiratory irritation (coughing, sneezing, etc.) please help us by reporting through the smartphone application, “CSIC” which is free from Google Play or iTunes stores
