Greg Hitt:  Open Letter: I am writing concerning the firing of Coach John Peacock

Open Letter:

I am writing concerning the firing of Coach John Peacock as I believe I can offer a unique perspective having been involved with Venice Football for almost 30 years in various positions under 6 different head coaches. I have been on the sideline and in the locker room for most of the games over that time and nearly all coached by Coach Peacock. I am also a founding member of the Venice Touchdown Club. And have travelled around Florida and been on 3 out of state trips with the team under Coach Peacock. I can report with pride the accolades the team has received not only for their performance on the field from officials and opposing teams and fans. But from Flight crews, hotel and restaurant staff and management for the teams manners and character. The teams have been a great refection on their families, school and community and should be a great source of pride for our city. In addition Coach Peacock has assembled a top notch staff with an abundance of experience from not only college but the NFL. Because of this our team receives the finest and the up to date training in the state not only on the field but in the weight room and conditioning programs as well. Due to Coach Peacock’s diligence and the generosity of our community our players are also equipped in the finest and safest equipment available

They also excel in the classroom: Venice Football Academics
2014- Venice Football had the 9th highest GPA in the state.
2015- Venice Football had the 7th highest GPA in the state.
2016- Venice Football had the 5th highest GPA in the state.
2017- Venice Football had the 9th highest GPA in the state.

Additionally since 2007, 75 players have received college scholarships equating to millions of education dollars. They have gone on achieve great things on and off the field including NFL players and even a Super Bowl Champion. Some have gone on to be teachers and coach’s right back at Venice and other local schools. Not to mention the 100’s of young men who through the discipline and commitment learned in the football program are leaders in business and community in various fields including religious organizations. We also have a former player and coach serving as a Navy Seal. The players are also taught to give back to the community and have worked with local organizations to feed the needy, visit seniors, coach and tutor youth under coach’s leadership.

Venice High School Facilities: Coach Peacock has been instrumental and the driving force in the following projects.

Weight room, the equipment and weights, the locker room, the entrance to the stadium and the Jumbo Tron. Though we have a generous and supportive community without Coach Peacock’s vision drive and commitment I can tell you these things would not have happened.

In conclusion is John Peacock perfect, no he is not. Is he a racist absolutely not!

Is he good for Venice Football, I think so!
