North Port: Arrest made in a shots fired call at the intersection of Ponce de Leon Blvd. and Dabarsky Ave.
North Port Police Department
Yesterday at around 11:45 p.m., NPPD received a call of shots fired at the intersection of Ponce de Leon Blvd. and Dabarsky Ave. The victim stated that her daughter’s estranged boyfriend, 22-year-old Dustin Allen Owens, shot at her while she was in her vehicle, after a verbal altercation. He then chased her briefly down Ponce de Leon before passing her and heading to a residence in the 400 block of Isabel in Warm Mineral Springs. Mr. Owens had his estranged girlfriend and their infant child in his vehicle at the time of the incident. At around 7 a.m. this morning, NPPD units with the assistance of Sarasota County (FL) Sheriff’s Office conducted a felony traffic stop on the suspect at Nele St. and Trionfo Ave. where he was taken into custody without incident. Mr. Owens was charged with attempted murder, shooting/throwing a deadly missile into a building or vehicle, possession of a firearm by a person issued an injunction, firearm, use/display etc firearm during a felony, child neglect without great harm, and false imprisonment. Thankfully, no one was injured in during this incident. Great job to NPPD and SCSO for conducting the stop safely and getting this guy off the streets.
