North Port: Families invited to Back to School Resource Fair is today
Join us this Saturday for the Back to School Resource Fair!
The City of North Port’s annual Back to School Resource Fair provides families with a variety of information for their school children. The event will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at the Morgan Family Community Center.
The event will feature 27 information tables from a variety of government, nonprofit and service agencies, including the North Port Library, the City of North Port, the Florida Department of Health, Suncoast Technical College, and more. Provided information will focus on education, recreation, health and wellness, family and childcare, safety, and more. The North Port Lions Club will offer free vision screenings.
“We are very excited to offer the community this event, which puts parents in direct contact with agencies that are available to assist them and their children,” said Janet Carrillo, Social Services Manager.
This event also would not be possible without volunteers, Carrillo said. This year, the City is receiving the help of volunteers fromColdwell Banker, TJ Maxx, JFCS of the Suncoast, the North Port Police Department, and individuals who want to make a difference.
“We have a lot of volunteers that are making this event possible,” Carrillo said. “In fact, if it wasn’t for our volunteers and their collaboration, I’m not sure this annual event would be as fantastic. We really do rely on them, and I can’t thank them enough for taking the time to make a difference in our community.”
Only those who registered in advance will receive free backpacks and supplemental school supplies.
