SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN FOR THE 42nd ANNUAL CITY OF VENICE HOLIDAY PARADE SATURDAY, NOV. 25TH, 7 PM
Continuing a 42-year tradition, Santa will be in town to officially kick off the Christmas Season in Venice along with 100 enthusiastic groups who are busy designing, building and decorating their entry into the 2017 City of Venice Holiday Parade. Community young students, teens, churches, social and service organizations are planning an amazing, fun-filled evening Holiday extravaganza for us all to enjoy. Of course, the Pirates, the Shriners, Clowns, and Dancers will be there to add to the entertainment. This is always great family entertainment, and it’s free!
Santa will be making two appearances in the Parade, once in the beginning and again as the Grand Finale.
Pre-parade entertainment will begin at the corner of Harbor Drive and W. Venice Ave. and also at the corner of Nokomis Street and W. Venice Ave. at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 25. The arrival of the Honor Guard and the singing of the National Anthem will kick off the Parade. At dusk the downtown holiday lights and decorations will be officially lighted.
Parade Route: The Parade begins on the south side of W. Venice Ave. at Park Blvd., heading east and crosses Harbor Dr. to the North side of Venice Ave., continues to Nokomis St., and follows South on Nokomis St. to Turin. ending at the Community Center.
Parking: There is plenty of additional parking at the Venice High School.
Street closing: Venice Avenue will be closed to street traffic beginning at 3 p.m.
Local school booster clubs and foundations will be cooking up some good food for purchase along Venice Avenue.
Venice Boy Scout Troop 77 will once again be collecting nonperishable food items prior to the parade for the local food pantry. Cash donations are also welcome as well. If every person attending brought 1 food item or gave $1, the outcome would be amazing.
EARLY SET-UP OF CHAIRS: Chairs may be placed along the Holiday Parade route after 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22 by the public (at your own risk). No bleachers, couches, rope, stakes, tarps, or mats please; these items will be removed by Venice Public Works.
Any chairs placed before 6 p.m. Nov. 22 will also be disposed of by Public Works.
