SCSO has made and arrest and recovered the sharp shooter rifle that were stolen from a deputies vehicle yesterday

 

 

 

***************************UPDATE***************************

Detectives have been working diligently for the last two days following the burglary of a sheriff’s office vehicle in which two weapons and several pieces of equipment were taken. Early this morning detectives recovered the stolen rifle, an Accuracy International AT 308. They have also made one arrest however, the investigation is extremely active and ongoing. We will continue to provide updates as the investigation progresses.

 

UPDATE #2: 18-year-old David Eugene Byrd has been charged in connection with the burglary of a sheriff’s office vehicle. Early this morning, detectives recovered the stolen rifle, an Accuracy International AT 308, as well as several of the items taken from our deputy’s car. David Byrd was just taken into custody and is facing two counts of Grand Theft of Law Enforcement Equipment, two counts of Dealing in Stolen Property and a single count of Tampering with Evidence. As mentioned this morning, this investigation is extremely active and ongoing. Byrd’s arrest does not conclude our investigation. We will continue to provide updates as we move forward.

 

UPDATE #3: Detectives have recovered the 9MM duty weapon & are continuing to recover items of significance taken from the vehicle. At this time, detectives feel confident they have identified all parties involved in the burglary.
