Venice Downtown Beautification Update 10/24
As work progresses throughout Downtown, pedestrians should be aware that crosswalk patterns will continue to change. We understand the importance of available crosswalks and the contractor is working diligently to maintain pedestrian access throughout the project area.
W. Venice Avenue
Work continues to remove the concrete base on eastbound W. Venice Avenue. Eastbound W. Venice Avenue is expected to open to vehicles in early November once the roadway is resurfaced. Crews will begin installing brick pavers on the south side this week. This work is also anticipated to include installing pavers in the crosswalks.
To advance westbound W. Venice Avenue, crews are scheduled to begin sidewalk removal/replacement next week on the 300 block of westbound W. Venice Avenue. Landscape crews have already started the “silva” cells for the trees in this area. Next week, the landscape crews will begin installing silva cells for the trees on the 100 block of westbound W. Venice Avenue. Lane closures should be expected at this time. Westbound W. Venice Avenue is anticipated to close to vehicles in early November and open by Christmas.
Sidewalk removal on the north side of the 200 block is scheduled to begin this week. During this work, the contractor anticipates that the parking areas on the north side will remain open and accessible through the alley when access from Miami Avenue is not possible. The 200 block of Miami Avenue will be open to local traffic only during this work. Currently, removal/replacement of the sidewalk on the south side of the 200 block is scheduled for November. Project PIO Jennifer Dorning will let the businesses on the south side know once sidewalk work on the south side is scheduled.
Nassau Street/Nokomis Avenue
This week, crews are completing the curb installation on Nassau Street between W. Venice Avenue and Miami Avenue. The work scheduled on Nassau Street just south of Tampa Avenue has been postponed to advance work on W. Venice Avenue and Miami Avenue.
