VPD: Domestic battery 10.10.17 in Venice
I believe this is related to the house fire in Venice, from late last night. That story is at: https://www.thescoopradioshow.com/video-report-venice-fire-investigation-turns-into-a-criminal-investigation-wfla/
On October 10th 2017 at approximately 10:23pm, The Venice Police Department received a report of a domestic battery with injuries on Elaine Street. When officers arrived, they found a female victim with significant facial lacerations and were able to identify the suspect as Melvin Dewayne Williamson, 03/29/1968. The officers gained access to the home with assistance from Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit to find that the suspect had fled. With further assistance from Air One and K-9 tracking they were unable to locate the suspect. At 2:32am, officers in the area of E. Venice Ave encountered a male matching the description of the suspect and initiated contact. Once confirmed that the male was indeed Melvin Dewayne Williamson, he went into custody without incident.
Then at 2:38am The Venice Police and Fire Department where dispatched to a report of an outside fire at the residence. Once on scene, it appeared that the victim’s vehicle was engulfed in flames in the driveway. The fire was extinguished and it was determined a large pile of clothing was burned on the pavement in front of the vehicle causing considerable fire damage. The State Fire Marshal’s Office responded in collaboration with VPD Detectives and Crime Scene to investigate the incident. At this time, the arson investigation remains active pending detective follow-up. Melvin Dewayne Williamson is charged with aggravated domestic battery.
