As you know, Venice High’s Senior parade was this morning where classmates dressed up & walked/rode together cheering ‘class of 2017’ & ALMOST everyone had fun. Many dressed up in red, white & blue & of course lots wore green & white. Some wore all black, their favorite sports teams, some dressed as gorillas & all sorts of themes but the student who wore a Confederate Flag as a cape was singled out, accused of racism & suspended for 3 days when she refused to take it off!? We’re supposed to be teaching our kids to be strong & independent & to stand up for what they believe in, as they enter the real world, BUT when this student did just that…she was punished by those who are supposed to be teaching her!? This is simply disgusting & unacceptable!! The MYTH that the confederate flag is racist is only continued by lack of education & ignorance & those who vilify the Confederate Flag are very confused about history & have jumped upon a bandwagon with loose wheels & aadly, this is who is influencing our kids on a daily basis!! Shame on you VHS! Smh
