Trial shutdowns-Water Main Replacement Projects in Venice

Water Main Replacement Program (WMR) Phase 5

The City of Venice Utilities Department has been replacing water main lines on the Island of Venice for the last few years. This effort includes a total of seven phases covering the entire island. Phases 1 thru 4 have been completed. Phase 5 includes the installation of approximately 5,500 lineal feet of new water main in front lot/roadway rights-of-way. Upon completion of installing the mains, approximately 165 water services will be relocated and meters installed in front lots. Project limits are roughly bounded by Turin St. W. to the north, Harbor Dr. S. to the west, San Marco Dr. to the south and Gulf Dr. to the east (please see figure 1 below). Phase 5 will be under construction within the next few months. As part of Phase 5, Utilities staff is currently conducting pre-construction activities including trial water shutdowns which are scheduled for the next two weeks. These trial shutdowns could last between 5 minutes and 5 hours. The City of Venice wants residents to know this is not a boil water advisory.

Water Main Replacement East Gate Phase 1

The majority of residents in the East Gate Terrace Subdivision have water and sanitary sewer mains that are located in the rear of the lot away from the right-of-way. Many are old and have deteriorated, resulting in decreased water pressure and constricted sewer flow. Phase 1 includes the installation of approximately 5,000 lineal feet of new water main in front lot/roadway rights-of-way. Upon completion of installing the mains, this area will see improved water pressure and flows. Furthermore, relocation of water mains will allow better access, enhance response time to emergencies, proper maintenance and repair of this infrastructure if needed.

As part of Phase 1, Utilities staff is currently conducting pre-construction activities including trial water shutdowns which are scheduled for the next two to three weeks. These trial shutdowns could last between 5 minutes and 5 hours. This is also not a boil water advisory.
