Email To The Scoop News - Mayor Holic and Venice City Council, real matters besides dog poop..
Dear Mr. Scott,
On behalf of Venice City Council, thank you for your comments. You will find that I do forward all email complaints, regardless of the sender, to the appropriate department for resolution. I hope that you will continue to contact me regarding the problems you brought out in your email as well as other issues that may be addressed by the city.
I can assure you all of our residents are important, however, it is difficult to correct a situation that we don’t know about. Please keep us informed.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
John Holic

Mr. Mayor and City Council members,
I am voicing this email in disgust on the way a few privileged and well-off citizens get the attention of the city and its services while we the lesser 5 percent have no voice. My issue is with the way one citizen in particular getting the ear of the city while my neighborhood gets the crumbs. I cannot help but follow email after email and the scoop posts feed of the man taking pictures of dogs pooping on the beach? This can bring a bitter taste to your month when your house is located between a meth and crack cocaine dealer. A fun fact, just a few nights ago I had a front row seat to a foot chase between a meth crazed man and the VPD, who they caught in the middle of the bypass just feet away from my doorstep. My neighborhood Myrtle Ave has had it far share of issues over the years and I have greatly appreciated the efforts of the VPD for trying to solve the real issues, but I cannot stand the double standard of attention that is so obvious to the lesser socioeconomic community, when a prominent citizen or friend of someone has an issue like dog poop.
The last time this Charles guy went off about dogs in the south jetty, I was told by a VPD officer that an organized crime group from Tampa struck Venice and victimized many families with auto and home break-ins? The officer said all the manpower was tied up watching the south jetty for dogs, all while this organized crime group was ransacking the city? I have no background in law enforcement or any civil service at that matter, but I think the higher priorities should be addressed first, long before we send all of the force to crack down on these minor city ordinance violations of dog pooping and campers? There are real issues in the city like the bad drug houses, break-ins by organized criminals, the growing mentally ill homeless populations, thefts, dangerous road condition because of construction, reckless speeders. I will gladly switch with this Charles fellow and take his dog pooping and campers’ issues if he is willing to take my meth and crack cocaine dealing neighbors issues?
I get it Charles has an issue and you cannot ignore a constituent, but can’t signs be put up or even a public service announcement be made? The truth is this is season and all the snowbirds are down. People are going to bring their dogs to the south jetty because it is beautiful!
My elected Mayor and Council members, I just “humbly” wish that you don’t forget about the true issues of this city, like my meth and crack cocaine dealing neighbors! Sorry for the sarcasm, but I truly hope you get the message. PLEASE don’t read this email as a bashing, I do honestly appreciate your public service and all that you have done for Venice. No response is needed, just consideration.
Your constituent,
David Scott
